Santa Julia is the no.1 organic wine producer in Argentina, and was the first winery in Argentina to carry the Fair Trade Seal. These accolades go to the heart of the Santa Julia winery. The Zuccardi family has a deep commitment to the environment and their employees.

Santa Julia started from very humble beginnings. Ing. Alberto Zuccardi begins to experiment with new irrigation systems in Mendoza which is really a desert at the foot of the Andes. In 1963 he established a vineyard in the Maipú region to show the area's producers the functionality of an irrigation system created by him.  In 1982, It was decided to focus the production of high quality wine varieties. The winery is called after Julia, Ing. Alberto Z  Zuccardi’s granddaughter

The vision for Santa Julia began to crystalised around the following principles: reaching the highest levels of quality, through sustainable practices that contribute to caring for the environment and being useful to the community. 

In 2004, with the aim of producing wines in the most natural way possible, the first certification of organic vineyards was achieved after years of developing sustainable farming. In 2013, two of Santa Julia’s main vineyards were Fair For Life certified. This allows a fairer development of the socio-economic activities of our workers. In 2020, Santa Julia have taken it a step further by developing natural wines, the first of which is El Burro Malbec.

The Wine

Santa Julia El Burro Organic Malbec

El burro Santa Julia it is a wine that represents the maximum expression of the variety and its surroundings. Allowing us to enjoy its potential in a more natural way.

El burro Santa Julia is born in Finca Maipú, 175 hectares of certified organic vineyards. Together with the 130 certified hectares organic in Finca Santa Rosa, makes Santa Julia the largest organic producer of Argentina.

 

Natural wines are those that have the minimum possible intervention of man. The wines are fermented using natural and indigenous yeasts. Fermentation and Maceration lasts for 15 days. The maceration keeps the wine juice in contact with the skins and seeds, which increases the intensity in the colour, tannins and flavours.  

 

Sulphites are not added (sulphites function as preservatives, due to their antioxidant and antibacterial properties). Selected yeasts are not added, but natural yeasts are used. Also, the wine it is not clarified.

Tasting Note

Very intense, with distinct violet tones. Typical aromas of Malbec - Fresh fruit reminiscent of blueberries, cherry and plums. Great body, structure, and depth in the mouth. Pleasant finish with jammy plums

Beef Casserole, lamb, Venison and soft cheese.
